What are the decathlon events?
The decathlon is ten events over two days. Day one: 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. Day two: 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
| Day | Event |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100m |
| 1 | Long jump |
| 1 | Shot put (7.26 kg) |
| 1 | High jump |
| 1 | 400m |
| 2 | 110m hurdles |
| 2 | Discus (2 kg) |
| 2 | Pole vault |
| 2 | Javelin (800 g) |
| 2 | 1500m |
Why that order
The order alternates speed, jumps and throws, and puts the 400m and the 1500m at the end of each day, when the athletes are most tired. Each event scores points on its own table and the total decides the winner.
Indoors
Indoors, men compete in a heptathlon over two days: 60m, long jump, shot put and high jump, then 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m.
