How many barriers are in the steeplechase?
The 3000m steeplechase has 28 barrier jumps and 7 water jumps: five per lap after the first partial lap, one of them over the water. Barriers are 0.914 m for men and 0.762 m for women.
The water jump
The water jump is a barrier followed by a pit 3.66 metres long, deepest right after the barrier and rising to track level. Most athletes step on the barrier and push off to land in the shallower water.
