How heavy is a discus?
The men's discus weighs 2 kg and the women's 1 kg. US high school boys throw a 1.6 kg discus and girls a 1 kg discus.

Age groups
Younger throwers use lighter discs so the technique, not the weight, sets the limit: U20 men throw 1.75 kg and U18 boys 1.5 kg. Women and girls throw 1 kg at every level from U18 up.
